Disney and Sony Pictures Animation announced Wednesday that they have teamed up to create a feature film that will feature a fictionalized version of a military financial education course.
The film will feature Academy Award winner Oscar-winning actress Mia Wasikowska as the lead character and feature Academy-winning director Joe Johnston, best known for his work on “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.”
The film will be produced by Steven Spielberg and Steven Spielberg Productions and will be directed by Johnston.
The partnership is a result of the two studios’ desire to create an inclusive and meaningful curriculum that encourages the creation of a positive relationship between student and military,” Disney and Disney Animation said in a joint statement.
The Academy of Military Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has created an initiative that seeks to “promote military financial literacy through the creation and dissemination of culturally relevant content for schools across the U.S. to support the success of students at the high school and college levels.”
In a press release, the two companies said they will create a film with the goal of “creating a narrative that engages a broad range of audiences, including families, teachers, and service members.”
The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2020.
